PDF of Slides: De Escalation Workshop 6-01-2023 DESCRIPTION: It’s difficult to stay level headed in a conflict situation. Join us in learning about relational de-escalation strategies that can be utilized when interacting with an individual who is in distress. Crisis de-escalation skills start with building awareness around personal triggers, understanding how the body responds to stress, and knowing best practice interventions for each stage of the crisis cycle. Please invite colleagues to this important learning opportunity. Our presenters are Mandee Johnson, LCSW and FVCC counselor; and Cory Clarke, FVCC Resource Officer. Mandee Johnson is a licensed clinical social worker. She worked for over a decade in intensive-outpatient mental health programs with children, families, and young adults. She is trained in trauma-informed care and currently works at FVCC as the mental health counselor and is part of the college’s Behavioral Intervention Team. Cory Clarke was born in Whitefish and raised on a mint farm in the Creston area. He graduated from Flathead High School and later MSU-Northern. Cory has been with the Kalispell Police Department for 14 years. He has spent the last 6 years as the Resource Officer at FVCC. Officer Clarke has helped to develop several programs that provide public outreach and education to include active intruder, de-escalation, and cyber/phone fraud trainings.
